Invest India Economic Foundation (IIEF) was established in 1990 to assist in financial policy analysis and formulation through objective research and education. Over the years, IIEF has worked in the areas of (a) research and development, (b) policy analysis and consulting, (c) institutional capacity building, and (d) financial literacy and public education.
Research and developmet:
Over the years, IIEF has commissioned over 250 research and technical papers to leading global and domestic experts and published eight books under its ongoing publishing program with Tata McGraw-Hill. More recently, IIEF has begun to offer data design and data analysis services in India . An example of IIEF's capabilities in this area is the national sample survey on 41000 earning members of the Indian workforce under the recent ADB TA on Pension Reforms for the Unorganised Sector in India .
Policy analysis and consulting:
IIEF is also highly experienced in providing consultancy services to the Government and is a valued and respected provider of policy analysis and advice. Indian Ministries and Departments that IIEF has provided policy consulting services to include the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, the Department of Economic Affairs in the Ministry of Finance, the Department of Posts and NHAI. IIEF has also provided consulting services to the Asian Development Bank, The World Bank and USAID. Major reports available in the public arena that have been produced in these contexts include the ' Project OASIS Report ' with the Ministry of Social Justice that set the benchmarks for India's new pension reform and the report on ' Harnessing the Outreach Infrastructure of India's postal network ' in partnership with the Department of Posts and The World Bank.
Institutional capacity building:
IIEF places equal emphasis on institutional strengthening and capacity building and is a well regarded and highly credible provider of such services in the context of the Indian financial and pension sectors. Since 1994, IIEF has designed and hosted 46 international level financial policy and business conferences on funds management, pension reforms, infrastructure financing, derivatives, postal reforms, financial sector reforms, debt markets and capital markets, in collaboration with a range of Government institutions, private financial houses and multilateral and bilateral aid agencies. IIEF has also conducted over one hundred workshops and seminars on public and financial policy and some sixty cutting-edge courses for heads of CFOs and senior management of banks, financial firms and manufacturing companies in the areas of risk management, derivatives, securities markets, etc. with faculty drawn from Stern School, Harvard, Berkley, NUS.
Financial literacy and public education:
Since 1990, IIEF has steadily built competencies in the areas of promoting financial literacy among everyday people and associated public education programmes. Past activities in these areas include the conduct of a nonrandom financial literacy and investor behavior study (with a sample of 2300 financial customers, 2002). IIEF has also written and published a financial literacy course for individual investors (titled 'ABC of Money') and produced two handbooks on (a) financial markets and concepts, and (b) mutual funds (which has already sold over 50,000 copies). IIEF has conducted thirteen mass outreach campaigns to promote a better understand of financial sector issues among individual investors in multiple states and conducted over 150 investor education seminars across multiple states (attended by over 100,000 individual investors). Under its financial education practice, IIEF has also delivered over 350 financial certification courses to over 50,000 financial intermediaries and financial product distributors (bank employees and mutual fund/insurance agents) across 27 cities.
