TECHNICAL SESSION II

Session 04 - 27th May 1998, 3.00 pm to 4.30 pm

Public issues - Moving Towards Price Discovery

Efficient pricing is key to reducing costs and minimising risks. Fixed price offerings, as are prevalent in the market, combined with the time lags between the date of pricing and the date of completion of the offer, heighten the risks faced by the investor. It has been argued that a better way to price issues is either through book building or auctions. How can these mechanisms assist in price discovery and be popularised in the Indian markets? Do regional exchanges play an efficient role in price discovery?
