The Project OASIS Technical Conference
27-29 November 1998, Cidade de Goa, India
Project OASIS commissioned a series of research papers, as part of the process of building a body of knowledge and improved clarity about issues in India's pension system. In each case, one authority on the subject was given a terms of reference, in order to produce a paper in time for the residential technical conference at Goa. All authors were invited to a technical conference. These papers were presented at this conference. Project OASIS also invited senior Government officials and practitioners from the financial sector to this residential technical conference to obtain their views as well as a critique of the background papers. These experts also provided inputs and suggestions which were used by the Committee.
The technical conference was hosted from 27th through 29th November at Cidade de Goa, India. Participation was limited to 48 invitees only. This technical conference fostered debate and encouraged fresh ideas regarding the issues. Presentations were linked to the background papers, but discussions dealt with all pertinent issues. At the end of this interaction, the participants obtained a greater clarity and new ideas for thinking about India's pension sector.
The revised versions of the background papers will soon be published in book form under the Invest India/Tata McGraw-Hill series.
