3rd IIEF Securities Industries Summit 1998

The capital markets in India were being transformed by fundamental developments such as the imminent adoption of a comprehensive securities law, re-introduction of badla, adoption of the a scripless environment, and the potential launch of derivatives trading. The Indian capital markets were expected to play a significant role in attracting the financial wherewithal to facilitate many of the ambitious projects facing the nation. How well India's capital markets responded to these challenges would be integral in determining the success of these projects. In this situation, the Summit provided an excellent platform for regulators, stock exchanges and intermediaries to discuss some of the prevailing critical issues facing the Indian securities market participants.
