Enormous structural, regulatory and technical changes had begun to reshape India's capital markets. The mutual fund industry has a unique role to play in strengthening these markets by motivating greater domestic savings and channelling the savings of the households into the capital formation in industry. India has an established depository system, revamped mutual fund regulations, an active fund management association, new products and management tools. How well the industry and institutions respond to change will determine its success and that of the markets.
