The Future of India 's Debt Market 1997
Bombay, 9th & 10th October 1997

In 1997, the Indian debt market was passing through a phase of transition. Developments and changes in the market microstructure in early 1997 highlighted the need to efficiently manage market risks, introduce methods to enhance liquidity, and take steps to improve transparency. This conference assessed these changes and examined issues which, in the context of deregulation and globalisation of India's financial markets, merited urgent consideration. The objective of the conference was to prompt a discussion on issues which would enable an efficient and vibrant debt market in India in the coming years. The conference was jointly hosted by Invest India Economic Foundation (IIEF) and the Securities Trading Corporation of India (a subsidiary of the Reserve Bank of India). The discussions were chaired by Dr. Y.V. Reddy, Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank of India and were attended by 325 domestic and overseas market participants. It included a parallel technology solutions trade show.
