The Future of India's Debt Market, 1998
Bombay, November 12 - 13, 1998

In 1998, the Indian economy passed through a period of unprecedented market volatility. This generated a heightened need for derivatives as tools for managing risk. The dollar-rupee forward market was now proven as a first line of defence for those in India affected by currency fluctuations. The equity index futures and commodity futures markets were poised for dramatic growth, and there were increasing signs of growth in fixed income derivatives as well. In this situation, The 2nd Indian Derivatives Conference put together the state of the play in derivatives markets in India. It brought together the key minds on the subject, generated debate on practical and policy issues, and help everyone better understand and plan their work in the area of derivatives in India.
